President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir reaffirmed Sudan's commitment to complete the peace process in Darfur and to implement the initiative of the people of Sudan to solve the issue of Darfur with the involvement of all the political parties and associations in Sudan. Receiving the visiting AU-UN Chief Mediator for Darfur, Djibril Yipènè Bassolé, at the Guest House Sunday, President Al-Bashir affirmed cooperation of all the parties with the newly-appointed mediator in order to make success his mission in Sudan.
President Al-Bashir further reviewed the peace process in Darfur through dialogue and negotiations, referring to the full mandate given to the government's delegation to the peace negotiations in order to reach at a comprehensive lasting peace in the area. Meanwhile, the AU-UN Chief Mediator for Darfur, Djibril Yipènè Bassolé, called on all the Sudanese people and parties to cooperate with him in order to achieve a lasting solution to the problem of Darfur toward stability and development of Sudan as a great and important nation in Africa. Bassolé, who will assume his tasks officially in August, said in a statement to the press that he is keen to begin his mission by meeting the President of the Republic and the government officials in order to make use of their information regarding the real situations in Darfur, saying that he would visit Darfur soon to meet all the concerned parties. The new mediator further expressed the solidarity of President Blaise Compaore as well as the solidarity of the people and government of Burkina Faso with the Sudan.
