Hybrid Force - At Last!

The UN Security Council has approved – unanimously – a resolution to deploy a UN-AU force in Darfur . Sudan has accepted the resolution and promised to cooperate in good faith.

An unfair anti-Sudanese campaign has centred around the peace keeping force.  The UN resolution is a triumph for Sudan and its allies because it is a diluted version of the original draft.

The final text went through more than seven major and minor alterations and amendments.  Sudan ’s concerns were addressed.

Implementation is the key now.

Will the rejectionist rebels unite and take part in negotiations scheduled for the first week of August 2007 in Arusha, Tanzania ?  Will the UN (and EU) live up to pledges and finance the 26,000 strong force?

This UN resolution puts anti-Sudan campaigners in the spotlight.  What other pretext have they got up their sleeve?.
