The African Families Foundation (TAFF) UK
In response to TAFF invitation extended to the Sudanese Embassy to attend their 50th anniversary of the Confederation of African Football under their program “Kick Racism out of Football”, I attended at their studios on the above date as a representative for the Media Office of The Embassy of the Republic of The Sudan.
The interview was conducted by Mr. Kwaku Osfosu who hosts a popular sports program on OBE TV called ‘Kwaku’. The guests were
Miss Nana Amamoo Chair of TAFF, Mr. Henry Bonsu Co-founder and Deputy Chief Executive of ‘Colorful Radio’ in London and myself. In the audience were Mr. Herbert Bukari Chair of the Family Fun Day Consortium, Ms. Eki Ogbeide Director of Edo State Women’s Association (ESWA), Mr. Paul Lam-Kilma member of the Simba Football Academy and a group of supporters of the TAFF. The discussion highlighted the distinctive role of Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia in the foundation of The African Football Confederation (AFC) in 1957 and their unity against racism when South Africa refused to abide to antiracism policy which resulted in their disqualification from the first championship games in Ethiopia. The discussion extended to include the impact of sports in the development in Africa Socially, economically and politically. The impact reflects the international respect to the African sports which has been translated into some 800 African footballers playing for major professional European Clubs. An important question was raised regarding Sudan absence from the African Nations Cup (ANC) tournaments for more than 30 years while Sudan possesses a very bright history in the early rounds of (ANC). I attributed the reasons for this absence to the economic difficulties which hit the country during the past 3 decades. I explained to the guests and audience the ongoing efforts from the government towards sports activities which resulted in having our national football team retrieving its name through joining Ghana ANC in 2008, plus the notable achievements of the Sudanese national clubs during their participation in the African clubs championships this year. At the end of the program which lasted about an hour, TAFF expressed their appreciation to all guests for their attendance and participation. The program will be shown on OBE channel shortly and that each of us will receive a copy of the interview when ready. Feedback from TAFF regarding our participation Dear Mr. Mehaisi, This is to express our most sincere thanks for taking part in our program last Friday on OBE TV. Your presence and contributions made such a difference to the discussion and I am sure that it will be noted in the African and British communities.
