Sudan and Turkey Agreed to Consolidate Bilateral Relations and to Cooperate for Boosting Stability in Darfur.
Sudan and Turkey have agreed to consolidate their bilateral relations and cooperation and to encourage the investment in the two countries. At a press conference held Monday evening in the Presidential Palace in Ankara by the visiting President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, and the Turkish President, Abdullah Gul, at the end of their talks,
Turkey affirmed its support to the humanitarian efforts in Darfur as well as its keenness to contribute to the stability in this region. The Turkish President described the visit of President Al-Bashir to Turkey as positive and fruitful and supporting to the political and economic cooperation between the two countries. President Gul said that Turkey will continue to extend humanitarian and technical assistance to Darfur, and will also support the UN role for realizing stability and peace in Sudan. He expressed his country's view that the issues of Sudan shall be solved in a framework that guarantees the country's unity and the sovereignty of its territories, calling on the international community to contribute to the solution of Darfur issue and to provide support for the infrastructural, construction and assistance programmes. President Gul said that Turkey endeavours to establish a model farm project in Sudan, indicting that the Industrial Chamber in Ankara would set up a major industrial area in Sudan. He said that Turkey will work to promote Niyla rural hospital into a major one. Meanwhile, President Al-Bashir praised the support of Turkey to Darfur and its contribution to the peace and stability in the area. He said that relations between Sudan and Turkey are witnessing major progress in all fields. President Al-Bashir has lauded the investments of Turkish companies in Sudan, asserting chance is open for the Turkish companies to invest in the oil, minerals and industry fields in Sudan.
