President Al-Bashir: The African continent utilizes less than 4% of its water resources
The President of the Republic Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir has explained before the summit of the African Union, currently in session in Sharm Al-Shiekh, Egypt, the potentialities possessed by Sudan in the field of water and diversified agricultural production. In an intervention before the summit Monday, President Al-Bashir said the world faces now the problem of food and water, pointing out that the African continent utilizes less than 4% of its water resources.
The President pointed out that Sudan has embarked on implementation of agricultural development programmes, construction of dams, electricity production and realization of self-sufficiency and heading towards the stage of exporting its diversified agricultural products. President Al-Bashir stressed the importance of giving concern by the African leaders to combating poverty and environmental deterioration, proposing changing the Council of Water Ministers into a permanent specialized committee on water affairs in the continent.
